A few years ago I sent off for a blackcurrant bush, courtesy of an offer Ribena were promoting and planted it in my garden with no expectations.
Fortunately, since then my blackcurrant bush, known affectionally as ‘Ben’ (real name Ben Gairn, one of the special varieties that is grown by British Ribena blackcurrant growers)Â has grown into a sturdy bush and supplied me year on year with an abundant crop of juicy blackcurrants.
Usually I just make jam with my currants, but after a little intervention from my eldest, I’ve decided to have a go at making my own blackcurrant lollies.
The official word from my chief taste-testers confirms that they are ‘mega’! Who am I to argue?
Here’s a little picture/recipe so you can have a go too, if you do, let me know I’d love to hear how you get on.
Also, if you’ve got any more blackcurrant recipes that you’d like to share, please let me know, I’ve got lots of blackcurrants to make use of!
