Interview: Cono Sur Wines at Edible Garden Show

As you may know if you’ve been following my blog and tweets, this weekend just gone I was invited by Cono Sur wines to visit their Urban Garden stand at the Edible Garden Show to meet the team and to find out more about their sustainable wines.

Cono Sur, which is based in Chile, is the first wine producer in South America to gain the ISO 14 064 certification in August 2010 after becoming one of the world’s first carbon neutral wineries in 2007.

The company wholly believes in sustainability and employs such practices as keeping geese in the vineyards to eat bugs rather than using pesticides; encouraging their workforce to travel around the estate by bicycle rather than tractor and using solar and wind power for winemaking processes.

On Saturday I met with Lee, from Cono Sur, who was kind enough to let me interview him all about their range of wines and of course, share with me a couple of samples to try. For the record, my favourite is the Viognier and Sauvignon Blanc, I’m usually not a huge white wine fan, I find it quite dry – if I’m honest white wine always makes me shudder (!) – but I can honestly say this was NOT the case with these wines. Delicate, light and very mellow – I’ve been converted :)
