Despite the humble potato being our favourite mealtime staple, us Brits ate nearly 8% fewer fresh potatoes in 2013 than in 2012, as soaring retail prices took their toll, however, even with the rising costs and our love of spuds, the average UK family still throw away 5.8 million* perfectly edible whole potatoes every day!
Furthermore, according to the government’s waste advisory body, Waste & Resources Action Programme (WRAP), the average UK household throw away six meals every week, costing us almost £60 a month, that’s £720 a year*!
How can we reduce unnecessary food waste AND save ourselves money?
Easily, and to show you just how simple it is, Iâve produced a short video in which I share my top food waste reduction tips, including:-
- Menu planning
- Portion control
- Store for more,
not only that, Iâve included a reviewed a fab new product which I have been sent to try, namely the Foodsaver.
The Foodsaver is a Vacuum Sealing System which claims to keep food fresh for up to 5x longer than ordinary storage methods e.g. plastic tubs, foil and zipper bags, which means your food stays fresher for longer, saving you waste and time.
