I am one of those people who really need their sleep. Without enough of it, not only do I look a little weary, I have also been known to get a little grumpy… yes, it’s true!
So, to ensure I’m always firing on all cylinders, I have to get to bed reasonably early, have a cool pillow, light duvet and absolute silence, then I am a very happy lady.
Of course, since being married I’ve had to forgo the ‘absolute’ silence part of the equation, but I’ve also been more aware lately that my bedding isn’t quite what it used to be. Something needed to change.
Cue my knight in shining armour … Penrose Products.
Penrose Products are a manufacturer of luxury bedding and soft furnishings made using Alpaca fibre and fortunately for me (and for my family) they kindly got in touch to ask if I would like to review their eco-friendly and sustainable bedding products. Of course I jumped at the chance.
The products I was sent to review included an organic, luxury Alpaca mattress topper, a duvet plus two pillows – and my first impressions – absolutely wonderful!
My hot spot/cold spot, slightly lumpy bed has been transformed into an uber-sleep dream-machine that I have since been struggling to get out of!
The mattress topper, which comes in a superb, reusable material storage bag made from the bedding remnants, is the perfect solution for a mattress that is a little ‘pre-loved’. Filled with 100% Alpaca wool sourced from sustainable farms in Britain, it is soft, yet supportive and is luxuriously comfortable to lie on. As I have found, it is the perfect solution for ‘ironing out’ those lumps and ridges that were beginning to become evident on my mattress.
Next, the duvet, similarly to the topper, the duvet is luxuriously thick, yet surprisingly light and as promised, is warm to snuggle under within moments of getting in bed. Unlike my other duvet which took ages to ‘warm up’, quickly followed by getting over-warm, the Alpaca duvet stays at my optimum temperature all night. This is due to the unique duvet stitching and Alpaca wool being made up of hollow fibres that allow water molecules to move freely, keeping you cool and dry, subsequently helping control your temperature – which is vital for an undisturbed nights sleep.
Finally, the pillows, again these deliver on all scores. Supportive and comfortable, they remain ever-plump and are heaven for nestling your head on after a busy days’ work. Handmade in Nottinghamshire, they are filled with 100% Alpaca wool, ensuring whatever your warmth requirement is, you remain at your ideal temperature throughout your sleep.
As well as being luxuriously comfy, another huge benefit of all Penrose products is that Alpaca fibre is naturally anti-allergenic and the cool, dry environment which is created by using this wool makes it difficult for dust mites to live and breed. Perfect for those with allergies like asthma.
With no chemicals or dyes used to manufacture the products, Alpaca wool is one of the finest, ethical and eco-friendly products around. It is also a sustainable alternative to other fibres, as Alpacas are only bred for their wool. This is carefully sheared just once a year and as great attention is given to the long term welfare of the animal, all of Penrose Products’ Alpaca range is approved by the Vegetarian society.
Sustainability is very important to Penrose Products, as well as sourcing from sustainable farms in Britain, they ensure that all ‘wastage’ created in the production of their products is reused. For example, their tote storage bags are made from leftover material, as are smaller products that Penrose produce. As Alpaca wool is also naturally biodegradable, it again has no negative impact on the environment.
Taking sustainability through to their packaging, as already mentioned all products are presented in reusable material storage bags, they are also wrapped with recycled board product straps, printed in vegetable ink and tied with purple ribbon. Another cute and practical idea that Penrose has covered are their ‘Reuse, Reduce and Recycle’ tips which are printed on the reverse on the board straps.
Surely that must be it you’d think, but no, Penrose have gone even further by stipulating that all of their products are delivered using UPS’ renowned carbon neutral delivery service. By using a delivery service that balances their emissions through carbon offsetting, Penrose Products are completely carbon neutral.
To summarise, I have been utterly thrilled with Penrose Products Alpaca range, in my opinion they are outstanding quality products which exceed delivery on every level. From their comfort, craftsmanship, eco-credentials and customer service, I have experienced nothing but a higher than usual experience. Needless to say, I will be enthusiastically recommending these products to everyone I meet.
But rather than take my word for it, why not experience Alpaca products for yourself. To find out more about Penrose Products, you can visit their very informative website at www.penroseproducts.com,
