You will recall that back in February I shared my review of the fabulous HOTBIN® compost bin with you. Well, to keep you updated, I’ve had my first sneaky peak at my homemade compost and can confirm it’s coming along very nicely.
I had hoped it’d be ready by now, but due to our cold weather going on for ages this year, my compost production has been a little slower than would normally be expected.
However, with temperatures in my bin now cruising at 40°c, it will only be a matter of days before I get my hands on my first batch of homemade compost and I can’t wait.
Note to self, I must crush my free range egg shells up much more.
On the subject of eggshells and compost, how about this neat idea which I spotted on GreenUp’s Facebook page –
Eggshell seedling pots?
Simply fill the empty eggshell with a little compost, sow seed and water.
When they are ready to plant out, gently break out of the eggshell and plant.
Scatter the crushed egg shell around the seedling to prevent attack from slugs.
