Mother’s Day is just around the corner and what better way to show your love for your mum, as well as Mother Earth, than to ‘green’ up your gift-giving.
So, rather than opt for the cliché cut-flowers or supermarket bought choccies, get a little creative and share a gift that keeps on giving and is good for our world.
Gift a tree or sponsor a tree!
For example, why not buy the mother in your life a young tree sapling to plant in her garden and enjoy for years to come. Alternatively, if she hasn’t got room in her garden, why not organize for her to plant a tree through The National Forest. This fabulous and very affordable scheme gives individuals the opportunity to plant a tree and create a place of beauty for our future generations. Participants are invited along to a special ‘tree planting’ day where they choose which tree they would like to plant, either Oak or Silverbirch, and receive their certificate.
Box of memories
Or, and this is a great one to get creative with, why not make a memory box for your mum. My sister made one for my 40th and it was fabulous, it included a copy of the first record I ever bought (Boy from New York City by Manhattan Transfer – cool eh?!), a Pippa doll (remember them?), my favourite book and packets of iced gems!
Alternatively, why not make the wrapping of your Mother’s Day gift part of the present itself, as well as making it the new, eco-friendly tradition in your family?
That’s exactly what ecoChici, a fabulously funky product from Amy Lewis design will inspire you to do.
Created by Amy and her husband Phil, these gorgeous gift-wrapping cloths are 100% ethically made in Australia, with Radius an organization who provide meaningful work for people with disabilities, and come with colour co-ordinated ribbon clips and recycled card gift tags.
A choice of three sizes and five designs in a range of colours, ecoChici are beautifully illustrated, unbleached cotton cloth wraps which make gift-giving an extra special experience, especially when using their Heirloom wrap (see top picture).
The Heirloom wrap is unique in that it’s printed with a repeat ‘gift tag’ design which allows you to fill in the name of the gift recipient and bearer using the permanent fabric pen provided. Over time, the wrap itself then becomes a ‘living’ record and memory of all the gifts passed from friends and family. How beautiful a keepsake would this be if passed from daughter to mother, mother to grand-daughter?
Easy to use, wrapping with ecoChici cloth wraps is made even simpler with their unique ribbon clips and step by step instructions which are printed using vegetable ink on recycled card – yes, they’ve thought of everything!
So, if you want to give green this Mother’s Day and inspire others to do the same, ecoChici is the perfect way to get started.
