Since I received my first Gtech product to review in 2012, the Gtech SW20 Cordless Electronic Sweeper, I’ve got to admit I’ve been a sucker (pun intended) for their vacuum products.
Cordless, lightweight and energy efficient, their products have revolutionised the vacuum market and with the launch of their latest product, the Gtech AirRam Mk2, after receiving a model to review, I’m in no doubt their success story will continue.
The next generation of the original Gtech AirRam, the Mk2 has all of the features you would expect, high performance, low power usage and long life, however the dirt collection system has been completely redesigned, as has the battery housing, plus it has the addition of a unique patented AirLOC system – more on that in a minute.
So, how does it fair?
The first thing I noticed is that there is significantly more suction with the Mk2. The original Mk1 AirRam is good at picking up carpet debris, but with the Mk2, carpets and crevices get a much deeper clean. This is thanks to the new patented AirLOC, which, Gtech states, changes with each cleaning stroke. When pushed forward, the front face of the AirRam Mk2 opens to collect larger debris, then on the backward stroke the AirLOC system seals to the floor collecting the finer dust from deep crevices.
To compare the dust removal ability of both of their models Gtech commissioned independent tests, the results of which are:
Dust Removal Ability %
Gtech AirRam Mk1 Carpet: 60, Hard Floor: 94.8, Crevice: 12.8
Gtech AirRam Mk2 Carpet: 64.6, Hard Floor: 97.1, Crevice: 105.2
The AirRam Mk2 is nearly 40% more effective at cleaning across all floor surfaces than the original Gtech AirRam.
The other point to comment on is the Mk2’s ability to clean right to the edges. The Mk2 has the addition of a red base lint strip, which enables the cleaner head to pick up particles along the skirting board and in corners much easier – the Mk1 does not have this and is subsequently not a good at doing this.
I’ve got to admit, for me, this is one of the biggest pluses of the AirRam. Half the weight of many mains powered vacuum cleaners, the Mk2 is very light, only 3.5kg (3 and a half bags of sugar), which means it can easily be carried around the home and up flights of stairs.
As I mentioned, the new AirRam Mk2 has a completely redesigned dirt collection system. Even easier and cleaner to empty than the Mk1 and certainly more effective than most other vacuums on the marketplace, the Mk2 can compress 2.4L of dust and debris into it’s 0.8L capacity bin. Check out my video to see in more detail how this cleverly designed bin works.
With it’s 22v lithium battery, the energy efficient AirRam Mk2 gives an impressive 40 minutes of cleaning time on one single charge, more than enough time to clean the average home. This is double the run time of it’s main competitors, in fact, the Dyson V6 has less than half the run time at only 17 minutes. Plus, for a short 1 hour charge, the Gtech will give another burst of additional run time.
Buy exclusively from www.gtech.co.uk the Gtech AirRam costs is £199
When combined with the new Gtech Multi Mk2 it’s £299.
The K9 version, which you’ll see on the video, is the 4×4 upgrade incorporating aluminium components to resist the wear and tear pet hair can put on a vacuum and refillable floral scented tabs, to negate the ‘pet aroma’ traditional vacuums can spread around the home. This model is £249.
When combined with the Gtech Multi Mk2 K9 it’s £349
I really like the Gtech AirRam Mk2 – I found it to be super efficient at cleaning all of my floor surfaces, from carpets to tiled floors, vinyl floors, laminated floors and rugs – every piece of dust and debris I could see was effectively and effortlessly picked up, leaving all of the floors thoroughly cleaned.
Also because it’s so light, it’s such a breeze to use. I soon whipped around each room, I wasn’t slowed down by the weight of the vacuum or the awkward cords, I could clean everywhere I wanted to without restriction and with minimal effort. The Mk2’s low profile meant I could easily vacuum under chairs, tables and sideboards, plus with the bright LED searchlights I could see into awkward corners and dark areas, meaning no speck of dirt was left lurking in any part of the house.
To see the Gtech AirRam Mk2 K9 in action and find out a bit more about some of it’s features, here’s a short video I made:
To sum up, if you are looking for an easy to use, effective and energy efficient vacuum to leave your home looking effortlessly clean, you should certainly give the Gtech AirRam Mk2 go.
