If you caught my interview on BBC Radio last week, you would have heard me sharing my top 5 simple green switches that are positive for our health, wealth and the world around us.
One of the subjects I talked about was beauty and the green skincare and organic bodycare swaps that are available.
Did you know that the average woman uses up to 20 different skin and beauty care products every day?
When you consider that our bodies absorb up to 60% of what is applied to it, with many beauty care products containing a cocktail of potentially toxic synthetic chemicals such as Parabens, Phthalates and Sodium Lauryl Sulphate, it is important that we look to natural skincare and beauty products for our long term health and well being.
Fortunately, there are many green beauty products available on the market these days, both on the high street and online, so to get you started with some eco alternatives, hereâs part one of my review of a selection all natural and organic facial moisturizers.
Green Beauty switches
1. Beyond Organic – Age Defying Day Cream
Containing 91% certified organic and 100% natural ingredients, the days of having to make a choice between pure organic skincare and anti-aging products are no more. Beyond Organic’s Age Defying Day Cream is the perfect alternative for those looking for a day cream to actively moisturize and âfightâ the signs of aging.
Containing a blend of four natural age-defying active ingredients including Oat beta glucan, clinically proven to be more effective at moisturizing the skin than Hyaluronic acid, Beyond Organic’s Age Defying Day Cream leaves the skin looking firmer and healthy whilst reducing the appearance of fine lines.
Beautifully scented of roses, the cream is easy to apply and is quickly absorbed, leaving the skin soft and smooth to touch. Only a small amount of the cream is required, but as it absorbs so quickly into the skin, I must admit I was tempted to use a little more. Iâve been using the cream for a month now and I am pleased to report that my skin feels hydrated and certainly looks firmer and radiant. Used in conjunction with Beyond Organics Organic Firming Eye Cream, I have found an improvement in the fine lines around my eyes, nose, mouth, which Iâm happy with, especially as a few more have appeared since my detox weight loss success! Of course, with further use, wrinkle reduction will be more significant over time.
At £35 for a 20ml pot, the cream is a little on the expensive side, but considering it is all natural and organic, and therefore contains no chemical nasties which I may pay for in the long term, itâs a worthwhile investment.
2. Beyond Organic – Firming Eye Cream
An award winning, certified all-natural product, Beyond Organic’s Firming Eye cream certainly lives up to its fabulous reputation. Light to touch and easy to apply to the delicate skin around the eyes, this paraben-free, organic eye cream is fragrance free and contains all natural ingredients including Eyebright to reduce the appearance of puffiness and Rosehip with Rose to tone the skin.
With only very small amount of cream required, I found not only did it effectively moisturise the skin around my eyes and gently reduce the appearance of my laughter lines it was also excellent as a âeyeâ refresher during the day, especially when Iâd been staring at a computer screen for far too long!
At £10.76 for a 7ml pot, this NATRUE certified eye cream, handmade in Cornwall, is a first-rate green swap Iâd unquestionably recommend to those currently using well-known brand, chemical-laden firming eye creams. It is all-natural, it is not tested on animals, it is handmade in the UK and it works!
3. Argan Oil by Green Esthetics
Iâve been using Argan Oil for a little while now as a conditioner for my hair and I must say, Iâm a true convert.
Extracted from the oil of the Argan nut found in Morocco, Argan oil is 100% natural, contains no parabens, phalates or other synthetic additives and is a wonderful whole body moisturizer, helping restore the skinâs pH levels, nourishing the hair, hydrating the skin and strengthening brittle nails.
As a facial moisturiser Argan Oil is very easily absorbed, only one pump is required for the whole face and it leaves the skin feeling smooth, soft and oil-free. I must admit Iâm not a huge fan of the scent of the Argan Oil, it smells a little âwoodyâ for my taste, but when you see how it can help reduce the appearance fine lines and promote healing of light scars, this is not an issue.
If you suffer from skin conditions such acne, psoriasis or eczema Argan Oil is the ideal skincare choice, as itâs antimicrobial properties fight bacteria, as well as calming skin irritations and inflammation.
At ($16.95) for a 15ml bottle Green Esthetics Argan Oil is a fantastic green beauty switch for those on a budget â particularly young adults who are interested in healthier beauty alternatives that work long term.
Part two of my organic skincare switches will follow soon, with further reviews on all-natural hair products, facial washes, soaps and cosmetics.
