Green beauty review: natural, organic skincare products Part Three

Green beauty facial washes and soaps

In this green beauty product review, rather than get on my soapbox and preach about the perils of toxic-laden skincare products, I am going to get out my soap box and share some of my favourite facial-cleansers and soaps that are cleaning up in the beauty world.

First up,

Aubrey Everyday Cleansing Cream

From their Everyday Basics Refresh & Hydrate range, Aubrey’s Cleansing Cream is a 100% all natural skincare product designed to care for normal/dry skin.

Using only premium quality including organic aloe vera, eucalyptus, camphor and menthol oils, Aubrey’s Refresh & Hydrate Cleansing Cream gently cools, cleanses, hydrates and replenishes the skin, leaving it feeling wonderfully refreshed and silky soft.

Aubrey Organics Cleansing Cream and Clay MaskRich, creamy and light to apply, the organic coconut, jojoba and olive soap based cleansing cream effortlessly cleans whilst the menthol oils leave your skin feeling hydrated and soft to touch with a gentle tingling sensation that certainly awakens the skin (and mind) after use.

Perfect if you who wear makeup on a daily basis, Refresh & Hydrate Cleansing Cream is ideal for those looking for a natural, everyday cleanser. Gentle, yet effective, it doesn’t strip or over-dry delicate facial skin, just balances the skin, leaving you with a fresh, smooth and supple complexion and at £8.99 for 100ml, it’s a real find.

Aubrey® products are available in independent health food stores nationwide and on the web www.aubreyorganicsuk.co.uk

Aubrey Clarifying Clay Mask

If you suffer with acne-prone skin and are looking for a deep cleanse, try Aubrey’s Clarifying Clay Mask. Made with 100% natural ingredients this mask works from the inside out, drawing out impurities whilst gently exfoliating helping oily, acne-prone complexions keep clear and healthy. As part of Aubrey’s Clarifying Therapy range, with active ingredients salicylic acid, naturally extracted from willow bark and blue green algae and milk thistle to soothe and protect stressed skin, this aims to balance and control oily skin.

Rich and creamy with a pleasant sweet ‘woody’ scent, the clay is easy to apply and after rinsing, leaves the skin hydrated and soft to touch.

I really like the mask, my skin certainly felt deep cleansed after use and not at all dry. At £12.98 for a 89ml tube, this cruelty-free, all natural product is the perfect addition to your weekly skincare routine.

Nelsons Pure & Clear Purifying Daily Facial Wash

With a natural seaweed base and enriched with Arnica, Calendula, Hypericum and Tea Tree oils, Nelson Purifying Daily Facial wash is a refreshing facial wash that cleans away impurities and reduces the appearance of blemishes. Nelsons Pure & Clear Facial Wash review

Packed full of antioxidants, minerals and vitamins, the seawood acts as a natural exfoliant removing dead skin cells and impurities whilst the essential oils purify, nourish and calm the skin.
Free from SLS, PEGs, parabens, lanolin, silicones, artificial colourings & fragrances, Nelson Daily Facial Wash is ideal for those who want to fight the appearance of blemishes, such as blackheads, without damaging their skin. With naturally occurring acne-busting properties Tea Tree Oil fights the bacteria which causes spots, whilst Calendula oil aids healing.

Gel-like, the facial wash is very easy to apply and invigorating. With a pleasant tea-tree oil scent, it thoroughly cleanses the skin, leaving it a little tight to touch, yet soft.

With no blemishes at all during my trial, at just £7.15 for a 125ml bottle, I’d certainly recommend this to anyone looking for an inexpensive, all-natural anti-blemish daily skincare treatment.

Prices start at £5.45 and Nelsons Pure & Clear anti blemish skincare range is available from Boots, www.boots.com, Holland & Barrett and www.hollandandbarrett.com.

Dr Bronner 18-in-1 Hemp Almond Pure Castile Liquid Soap

Wow, where to start with Dr Bronner?

Dr Bronner 18-in-1 Hemp Almond Pure Castile SoapA ‘magic soap’, Dr Bronner is a light, oily liquid soap made with certified organic oils including coconut oil, olive oil, hemp oil and jojoba oils which, according to it’s creators, can be used for cleaning almost anything!

The 100% Pure Castile Soap (named after the Castile region of Spain where olive oil soaps where invented long ago) has a rich lather and amazing scent. The almond soap which I was sent to review smells truly divine, in fact good enough to eat, think warm Bakewell tarts and you’ll have some idea of what I mean!

Silky soft to apply and quick to lather, Dr Bronner’s soap is perfect for getting your skin ‘squeaky clean’, however, on the down side, it can be a little drying on the skin. To avoid this I’d suggest only using a few tiny drops, alternatively it can be diluted with water or by adding a little olive oil.

As already mentioned, Dr Bronner’s can be used in many different ways and I found it ideal for using in the bath, shower, diluted as a handwash and my favourite, as a shaving gel – for my legs, of course!

Dr Bronner’s can also be used for cleaning your teeth! Not wishing to use the Almond Soap, I chose to trial the Peppermint Soap to clean my teeth and can say it works pretty well. With a couple of drops (not any more or you’ll have too much of a lather) it foamed really well and cleaned my teeth thoroughly, squeaky clean, in fact. However, one problem, the mild soapy after taste, which did take a little getting used to, though with a thorough rinse with water this soon fades.

On top of it’s organic ingredients, Dr Bronner’s liquid soaps are also certified Fair Trade, cruelty-free and packaged in 100% post-consumer recycled plastic bottles and are available in a range of natural fragrances including Rose, Citrus, Lavender, Tea Tree Oil, Peppermint as well as an unscented baby mild soap. From £1.99 for a 59ml bottle to £44.99 for a gallon (!), this ethical, wholly natural product is amazing value for money!
